Sprints Should Act like a Status Field in Charts and My Work

Monday’s team helped us set up our MondayDev platform to divide work into Sprints.

  1. They created a master Sprint board that fed into all teams’ Story boards. Then, grouped all Stories by Sprint.

  2. We then created stacked charts to track how much work each team member has during a sprint.

The challenge is that we have team members who work on multiple teams.

In the example where a team member is assigned to stories for Sprint 1, Sprint 2, and Sprint 3. If the team member is on a single team, this would be no problem.

However, when the team member is on multiple teams, the charts show the same Sprint (i.e. Sprint 1) multiple times as separate sprints when they are coming from different teams. For example, the x-axis divides it as Sprint 1 , Sprint 1, and Sprint 1 when an owner is assigned to sprint 1 for team 1, team 2, and team 3.

This does not help managers or individual contributors understand how much work they have for one sprint in a quick and easy view.

I have found limited capabilities in both the Charts functionality and My Work for tracking work by Sprint with the current set up that Monday provided for us.

Allowing Sprints to act like a Status would have other benefits that our team has identified:

  • The ability to use Active Sprint in automations
  • The ability for a change in Sprint to trigger an automation
