Never seen a project management tool display sub-items in a separate section from their parent task. Has anyone been able to make sense of sub-items in the Timeline and Gantt board views and use it effectively?
In monday.com, sub-items appear separately from their parent tasks in the Timeline and Gantt views, which can make it hard to track them together. To manage this, you can use dependencies to link sub-items to their parent tasks, create separate boards or views for sub-items, or set custom filters to display them separately.
You can also manually adjust due dates for sub-items to make sure they show up on the timeline. While it can take some extra effort to keep things aligned, these strategies help you manage sub-tasks effectively, even though they are displayed separately.
Hi Sk!
Sirah here from Mindflows for the Gannt View you can go into settings and check under widget settings to display subitems columns shown on my screenshot below:
You can play around with your settings to achieve what you are trying to display.
Hope this helps!
Btw, Monday does not support creating dependencies between [parent] tasks and sub-tasks.
The issue not displaying the sub-items, it is about where they are shown in the Timeline and Gantt views. All sub-items (irrespective of what the parent is) are displayed at the bottom.
When in the Gantt view, under settings, change the Group by format for Subitems to “By Parent Item”. It seems to group them all together if you have it set to “Group”. Hope this works for you! I actually hate displaying my sub-tasks, so I have them set to hidden and we use them more for our internal tasks, not to be shared with customers. But every application is different.
Thanks @jhammond That one small setting makes so much of a difference! Wish that was the default.
Glad it helped!
