Using Dropdown to create sperate items on a separate board

Hello,

I have seen a few topics that talk around this but I have not found a solution.

I hope someone can help me?

How can I ensure that each new item that is created on a new board only relates to one of the dropdown selected, when there are multiple selections?

Currently I duplicate this automation for each of the drop down select labels.

The end result is that a new item is created on the new board for each label, however it does not only select that individual drop down select label, it shows all the selections from the drop down.

Hey! Shannon here with the monday team. :waving_hand: Welcome to the community! I’ll need a few more details from you to help troubleshoot this further.

I’d love to take a closer look at the item mapping for your automation. Could you please share what you’ve mapped/selected in the “item” field of your automation?

Additionally, when items are moved to your “Done” group to trigger the automation (and the conditions are met) are all 4 dropdown labels selected per item?

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Here is the item card:

This is the board the automation starts from.
Onboarding & Offboarding Team Members,
When Done is selected from the Status Column, it moves from the Onboarding Group to the Done Group, and then 4 items are created on a new board called: Individual Tech Usage 2025.

The dropdown select column is called Requested Platforms.

4 individual items are created, but all 4 dropdown selections are captured in each item, instead of one dropdown per item.

I hope this makes sense, please let me know if you need any further information.

Thank you.

Hey! Thank you for the screenshots–super helpful! Right now, the automation is working exactly as it’s programmed. However, it sounds like you’d like a different outcome.

On your “Onboarding & Offboarding Team Members” board, your “Requested Platforms” column is mapped to “List the tech needed” in “Individual Tech Usage 2025.” The automation is going to transfer all of the entered Dropdown Labels to the new item in “Individual Tech Usage 2025.”

For this particular example, are you looking for each new item on “Individual Tech Usage 2025” to only showcase one of the four entered labels? If that is the case, it isn’t possible to achieve this with your current automation or the current board setup on Individual Tech Usage 2025." However, perhaps you can create different groups on Individual Tech Usage 2025" for each platforms.

You’ll need to adjust your automation on “Onboarding & Offboarding Team Members,” creating one for each platform. Essentially, if one of the platforms is entered as a label in “Requested Platforms,” a new item will be created under its associated group on “Individual Tech Usage 2025.” This way, you don’t need to map “Requested Platforms” to “List the tech needed” either, since you’ll have groups set up to indicate the requested platform.

You already have the foundation of the automation set up with the trigger action and conditions. To adjust your automation, you’ll delete the other platform labels in “and only if Requested Platforms contains one of these ____.” Each automation will have one dropdown label selected for this condition. You’ll also move forward with the same action: “create item in board.” However, in the “Group” field under “item,” you’ll select the associated platform’s group. You can duplicate the automations as you’re building them out to save yourself time!

This is a lot of information, so please let me know if you have any questions about what I’ve shared!
