When I add an activity on the Meetings board, and link it to a deal, it does not show on the expanded view of the deal itself with other activities. However, adding a meeting on the deal view does add the item to the Meetings board. I need this to work both ways. Any advice?

I have tested this on my end and when the item is connected, activities created in either item should reflect in both. Can you please make sure no filters are in place that would be filtering out the activities from connected items? 
I’m having this same issue as OP. It’s not about whether the newly created activity reads as connected to the deal because that is working OK if you create the activity from the activities board. Rather, the issue is that if you initiate the creation of an activity from the board where all of your activities are getting recorded to versus in the emails & activities widget, then the activity will create and it will connect to the deal, but it won’t show up in the running log of emails & activities when you’re looking at the overview for that deal. You can only see the newly created activity (though connected to the deal) from a connected boards view or going to the activities board.
