Ability to add new "Updates" columns

Currently, there is only one place for “Updates” in an item. It’s built-in to every item and sub-item. It can’t be hidden or deleted:

Could we please make “Updates” a kind of column that we could add, rename, customize, hide, delete, etc. like all other columns?

I like the features of Updates (seeing previous updates, ability to “Write updates via email”, @ mentions, rich text, etc.), but it’s frustrating and limiting that there is only 1 Updates field per item and it can’t be hidden from any views.

Big +1 from me on this.

An extra Updates column that could be made visible only to select parties would be great!

I actually went to the “more columns” hoping to find exactly this. Oh well.

SAME here! That would be PERFECT and reduce the crazy extra long, ever growing scroll down … especially if the item is kept for years…
• This would help categorize the topic for discussion &/or updates in each column, to keep it more organized.)
• Maybe the closest way to doing this (currently) is to create a subitem. There is a separate “Update” for each subitem you create too.
