Add Ability to Set a Single Workdoc as a View on a Board

I often find that it would be very helpful to have instructions attached to a board that are obvious and can be accessed by the user with a single click (or zero clicks).

In the past, putting simple instructions in the board header description worked. Now with the new board layout this does not work as well.

One obvious solution for this and other related purposes would be to enable a workdoc to be connected to a board as a view (or similar structure).

I recently had this need and took another look at how to best accomplish this… I found no current solution satisfactory.

Came here for this. Please! Is there no way to do this? Nearly all my workdocs are like this and I want them as a board view.

Adding my voice to bump up this thread. With how media rich Workdocs can be, this seems like a much more useful widget than the “Text” one and seems like a natural extension/use case for the Workdoc feature.

Following because we have an extensive quality management system with relevant documents that users need to access while inside of a board and the only way I’ve found to do so is with file columns or file gallery but that still requires me to include a file column.

I think I have an ideal solution for this, until monday takes this idea further.

EDIT: This work around can be used with google docs and other embeddable links too.

  1. Simply create a “blank view”
  2. Add new widget “Embed Everything” and “Dock” it
  3. Then make your monday doc public + copy paste the link to this widget

Looks like this:

Not perfect, but I think it’s a good start.

Other option, same idea but using the text widget instead.

I can use this and link to the document we’ve created (not a Monday doc) elsewhere in our system. So this is a work around that could achieve the same outcome.

Adhere to this, very necessary to be taken care of!

This thread should be merged with Monday Doc available View on a Board

Hi folks,

We’re just submitted an app for review for the Marketplace:

Docs in Board View

The features are:

  • Embed a Workdoc in a board view
  • Multiple board views, each with their own Workdoc (i.e. one view for “Guidelines”, one for “SOPs”, one for “Resources”, etc)
  • Respects monday’s native Workdoc permissions

The app should clear the review process in a couple of weeks or so. I’ll link it here once it’s live.

Hope some you find it helpful!

Docs in Board View is now live in the monday Marketplace!

If you want documentation with your boards, this is the app you’ve been looking for!

How to

It solves this problem perfectly:

You can also:

Add multiple doc views per board: So you can do something like this: a view for Policies, a view for Requirements, and a view for Reporting, all on the same board
Maintain control over your board: Only board owners can add docs
Maintain doc permissions: If they can see a doc normally, they can see it in the view
Clean, read-only viewing: Nobody will accidentally alter your docs. A link in the UI allows you to make edits quickly.

More features are coming soon!

In the next month or so you’ll also be able to:

  • Add multiple docs to a single view
  • Add docs from a board column to a single view (this is great if you already have docs organized into a board)

Hey all,

I don’t know when, but it looks like monday released a new Doc board view recently! Using it now!

Hi Reinier ! Ho, I can’t see it. Do you think it’s only on new boards ? Thanks a lot.

I can see it on all our boards. Maybe it’s slowly rolling out to all customers, or maybe because we’re marketplace developers. Hopefully you’ll be able to see it within a few days :crossed_fingers:

Hey @ascheubel. It might be this monday labs setting:
