Adjusting Subitem Start Date based on Due Date + Duration

Hi everyone, running into some issues with setting dates - see needs/ explanation below:

WANTS:

• Automictically populate a “Start Date” based off of the “Due Date” and a duration (thinking numbers column) within a subitem.

• Eventually, would like the timeline column to match the start date and due date in the subitem. And for these dates/timeline to automatically adjust as dates or durations change.

Here is a simplified version of our board with explanation. Without these automations, we have to manually adjust start dates and timelines as the due date changes. I may be overcomplicating this - so if easier way please let me know. I tried a formula column but the durations are different for each subitem so it does not work.

1. Overall Due date/start date is there to build dependencies in the subitems to automatically populate the due date based on x amount of dates. This date encompasses the OVERALL start and due date for the task (item)

2. Each subitem is dependent on each other and is its own separate task, so has its own start date and due date as well.

3. Due date needs to stay as deadline mode, but start date does not have to.

4. Each subitem has a different duration and start date.
