Is it possible to assign the user who changes the status column to a people column?
Hi Ian,
Yes, it is possible to assign the user who changes a status to a people column using monday’s Workflow Center.
With Workflow Center, you can create an automation like:
“When status changes, assign the person who made the change to the People column.”
This type of dynamic automation tracks the user who made the change and updates the people column accordingly.
If you don’t have Workflow Center, this feature isn’t available in standard automations yet, but Workflow Center provides this advanced conditional and dynamic automation capability.
Here’s a resource to get started with Workflow Center:

Hi Thanks for responding to my question. I really appreciate your time. We have the full enterprise version on Monday.com and when I create a workflow in the workflow centre I cannot find an Action to assign the User (whoever that person may be) that has changed the status of an item in a status column on a board to a people column.
The only option I get is to assign specific people, which is not what I want. (See screen shot below)
Further guidance from you would be greatly appreciated.
The only way I have been able to achieve this functionality is to use a third-party app called Magic Columns and standard automations.
Thanks
Ian
Hi Desiree
I tried that in the workflow centre but I cannot see an option to have the current user name captured in a people column.
I have only been able to do this by using a market place app called Magic Columns.
Thanks Desiree,
I am not familiar with the workflow centre as yet. Can it be done just using automations?
Ian
Hi Ian,
You should see the option below. Try refreshing your screen. If you don’t, then you should reach out to customer support. It should be there.
Thanks a million David. That worked. Fantastic!
