Breaking Communication Barriers: How We Built a Smarter Slack-Monday Integration

At Creative Bits and Creative Bits AI we love pushing the limits of what’s possible with Monday.com. Recently, a client approached us with a unique challenge—they wanted to close the communication loop between Monday.com and Slack.

The Challenge

While Monday.com offers native Slack integration for posting updates, it lacks a crucial feature: the ability to sync replies from Slack back to Monday.com items. Our client needed:

  • Two-way communication between teams in Slack and Monday.com items
  • Privacy controls to keep sensitive board data secure
  • Seamless workflows without manual copying/pasting

Our Solution

We engineered a custom integration using:

:small_blue_diamond: A Slack bot to monitor channel replies

:small_blue_diamond: Make.com workflows to process and route messages

:small_blue_diamond: Monday.com’s API to update items dynamically

How It Works:

:one: A Monday.com update gets posted to Slack (via native integration)

:two: Team members reply in Slack—even those without Monday.com access

:three: Our Slack bot detects replies and sends them to Make.com

:four: Make.com processes the message and updates the original Monday.com item

Why This Matters

This solution demonstrates how custom integrations can extend Monday.com’s capabilities far beyond out-of-the-box features. Whether you need:

  • Client feedback loops
  • Cross-team collaboration
  • Secure external communication

The right integration strategy can make it happen.
