Clarification on who a Viewer can be

My understanding is that Guests need to be outside of your organization (with a different @ email ending). I need clarification on Viewers…can they be inside the same organization with the same email domain? Do Viewers count towards your allowable members in billing?

I need people from another department in the same company who are not using the program to simply have visibility on what our team is doing/status of our projects etc. It’s not worth paying for their membership for only that, however I’m not sure what is the best way to do this. Thanks!

Hey @Dayna

Viewers do not count towards your overall licenses, they can see all main boards and be invited to private/shareable boards.

here is an article from support with more detail: https://support.monday.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002144900-What-Are-The-Levels-of-Users-In-My-Account-

Thanks for your reply @timlittletech. I did read that article and really the main thing that I’m needing clarification on is whether Viewers can be people from the same organization (same email domain as our monday account users). I understand that Guests must be external….

gotcha, yes viewers CAN be people from same organization who you’d only like to have read-only access.

Best!

Hi @Dayna

As @timlittletech mentioned, a viewer can be a user with any email address domain, even if this matches your own

It does not have the same restrictions as the guest type user, which must be external to your own email domain.
Viewers will have access to the boards that full users can access (as opposed to guests who have specific access only to boards to which they have been invited).
That said, viewers will only have read-only access and will not be able to make changes to the board at all.

I hope this helps! Remember to mark as solved if this answers your question :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Best,
Dani
