I am interested in connecting different types of board such as a project board and then a task board. I want to try to create visibility and an executive summary of all things within our workspace, but the boards are different because of the nature of the task, project etc. How do you connect different types of board for visibility across a workspace?
I am trying to determine if this is feasible given the variety of boards. I know that I can mirror columns and connect boards, but I want to know if there are any examples.
Have you considered creating a dashboard? Depending on your monday.com plan, you can pull in various boards into one dashboard to create charts, widgets, timelines, etc. in one place. A way to track all your projects/tasks.
It would be helpful if your board had at least similar statuses. If you have a similar status across boards and you track using a timeline/date column, it is very easy to put together an executive summary within the reports of your total current workload regardless of what else you are tracking.
Connecting boards is also possible. You can create a high-level board where each item represents an overall project/task. Then you can create a connect board column that connects to all your various boards. Then you can check off all the tasks you want to connect to the high-level board to provide an overall summary of the work in one board. The mirror columns connect to the connect board column and you select which column from the project/task boards you want to mirror. It’s important to note – you can only have ONE column type in a mirror column at a time. For example, if you want to mirror status, ALL of your boards have to be using a label column to show the data correctly. Here is a screenshot of what a high level board can look like. The green line under the columns represents which ones are mirrored from the Project boards, so they have a sum of data from the connected tasks.
Awesome and thanks for the info and definitely the screenshots helps. I was able to play around and get some results I wanted and as you stated needing a common status column. Thanks again
