Connecting sub items to items across boards

Hi. Building out my first implementation of Monday.com, so exciting times here, but hitting a few challenges along the way (nothing new, I’ve been native in Workfront for years and that’s really refines your tolerance for challenges).

I have a board where my team tasks are managed, with each project represented by an item and each task as a sub-item - because of the nature of our work, this is the only way it can be structured).
When a subitem/task is ready for quality checking, I have an automation that creates a new corresponding item on a QA Board, but I ideally want to link that newly-created item to the originating sub-item, such that when the item on the QA board moves to QA complete as its status, this updates the parent subitem status to QA Complete for its status.
Is there a way as part of automation or workflow to connect them in this way?

Which product (CRM/Work Management, etc) and level (Pro/Enterprise) do you have?

Thank you for the response - I think I’ve found a way to resolve my issue with a bit of trial and error and perseverance. But just to respond to your actual question, I have Work Management, Enterprise, in case there’s a particularly great solution you could suggest. Thank you!
