Creating a dashboard of status by length of time in each status in days

Ultimately trying to see how we can work on our efficiencies by lowering the timeline, but need to see what our current numbers are to get a baseline and understanding of the gaps to solve for.

Hello @kzwettler
Totally agree with this approach. Before shortening timelines, it helps to get a baseline on how long work sits in each status and where items get stuck.

Best quick options:
Use a Dashboard to track cycle time and workload
Add Time Tracking to measure time per phase
Use Board Insights to spot bottlenecks by status

You’ll need to add columns for each status ie a ‘time tracking’ column for Building. Then when status changes to Building, set an automation to start that timer. Then when status changes from Building to something else, stop that timer. Or you could do similarly with date columns ie when status changes to Building, set ‘Building date column’ to ‘today’.

hi @kzwettler ! If you’re trying to establish a clear baseline before improving timelines, you might want to look at Time in Status for monday.com. It tracks how long items stay in each status and gives you real data on bottlenecks and delays, so you can see exactly where time is being lost and where efficiency improvements will have the biggest impact.

There’s a 14-day trial, and happy to walk through the setup on a quick demo if helpful.

the date column approach @Clover_Gal mentioned is solid for this. we did something similar, added a “days in status” formula column that calculates the difference between today and the date stamp. then you can group by status on a dashboard and see average days per stage pretty easily. way simpler than time tracking columns imo.

@kzwettler if an add-on is an option, I suggest taking a look at the Screenful app, which provides analytics and reporting of monday.com data. You can customize reports with advanced filters and schedule them to be sent via email or Slack.

Screenful calculates timings for each item automatically and shows the average timings for each status. You can learn more from this post: Track time in status for monday.com items

Hi @kzwettler ,

We represent the Board Email Reports | Item Updates Reports app (maybe you already have it installed for your monday instance).

Recently, we introduced a new custom Status Report (Time in Status / Status Changes) in the app. It allows you not only to identify workflow bottlenecks but also to understand why they occur.

Please take a look at our recent 2-minute how-to blog post - hope it helps your case.
