It sounds like you’re encountering a bug in Monday.com’s Kanban view, where new items are automatically assigned to the same user—even though no automations are set up to do this.
In the Kanban view, you can create new items directly by clicking the “+” icon on a column
However, there is no default setting in the Kanban view that should auto-assign a user unless:
A default value is set in the People column.
An automation is running in the background (even if not visible at first glance).
A template or form is being used that includes a pre-filled People field.
Troubleshooting Steps
Check Default Values:
Go to the board’s People column settings.
Ensure there is no default user set to be assigned when a new item is created.
Review Automations Again:
Sometimes automations are scoped to specific views or triggered by item creation in a certain group.
Double-check under Automations > Board Automations for any hidden or archived rules.
Check for Form or Template Use:
If the item is being created via a form or template, it might be pre-filling the People column.
Compare with Table View:
Since this issue doesn’t occur in the Table view, it’s likely tied to how the Kanban view handles item creation—possibly a UI-specific bug.
Perhaps reach out to support via Chat? Hope it helps!
Hi Clare, thanks for getting back to me.
I’ve been in contact with the support team and have a help ticket raised. The issue is due to the kanban view I have being filtered for certain users, and therefore monday.com automatically assigns this to one of the users.
