Feature Request: markdown or code formatting in Updates

Hello everyone, we recently released an app to the marketplace that enables you to write markdown documents anywhere within monday. Here is the link to the app.

If you have any questions, you can always reach out at support@kolaai.com

We need this SOOOOOOOO bad!

Hi Monday.
Please just stop what you’re doing - all of you - and have a good long chat about how best to integrate markdown with updates/replies. Then, when you’ve worked it out (shouldn’t be too difficult, since everyone else is doing it) go build it, test it, make it live, then get back to whatever you were doing before.
Thus everyone else in the world can get on with their jobs without having to invent ridiculous work-arounds, and you can bask in your own greatness as you notice your customer satisfaction ratings suddenly rise.
Thanks. You’re amazing!

Is this feature ever coming? Seems like a must if you want to use Monday as a tech company…

Monday team, please consider this. Especially now that you’ve got “Monday Dev” as a product. If you’re going all in on dev teams; this is something we would all need/appreciate.

Some of the key points to me:

  • Type backticks before/after something to automatically convert it to inline code formatting. There doesn’t seem to be any inline code format at all yet. Even this by itself as a shortcut/format option would be an improvement without full markdown support.
  • Type three backticks on a new line to start a code block
  • Refresh the formatting on code blocks in general. Courier is ugly/outdated. Something like Source Code Pro or Roboto Mono would be an improvement.
  • Within a multi-line code block, support syntax highlighting for common languages like json, html, css, javascript, sql, c#, etc.
  • Support list and checkbox syntax. This meshes well with your existing formatting options of bullets/numbers and checkboxes.

Thank you for your consideration!

This is really needed. Often, I find myself needing to quote specific parts of someone’s earlier comment, and there isn’t a very attractive way for drawing attention to that, makes it clear that we are quoting someone.

I want to be able to do this:

Markdown would totally solve this with the back ticks for code formatting.
Alternatively, adding some code formatting buttons to the editor would work too (code block and inline code). But I think allowing markdown would be more flexible.

Is there anything I can do to have Product Management decide to implement this? It’s ridiculous that it doesn’t exist. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what I was missing because I was sure Monday had a way to show code as code. After I gave up I landed here and it’s sorely disappointing.

Hi all, I was also struggling with this same issue and I’ve found that it is already implemented (poorly).

When copying code from another source it does not automatically recognize or retain the markdown format. However you can paste as text and format as ‘Code’ in the header of the Editor as such:

That does not work in “updates” though :frowning:
