Filter out done items and subitems

Can we please filter out all items and subitems with a DONE status?

The correct filter logic doesn’t filter out done subitems that have a “not done” status.

It’s shocking to me that after years (at least 3-4 years, looking back through old forum posts) this is STILL impossible with Monday. Such a basic feature - filter out all of the ITEMS which are Done (presumably including their subitems, if the parent is done), AND filter out all of the SUBITEMS which are done (but don’t hide the parent if it’s not done, and don’t hide any of the other sibling subitems that are not done).

In other words, there is STILL no way to hide all of the done tasks and done subtasks in a project with monday in 2025.

I have never seen any task management app that can’t do this - clickup, asana, even basic ones like Todoist. Yet, today I came across this issue and support confirmed it’s not possible.

Monday really should provide an update on this. There are dozens of forum posts that talk about this. Here are some other feature requests, rounded up, which should have their votes merged into this post.

This is possible. Here is how I did it, and you can see that it is working.

This does not work if you have any parent items on your board with the default status (grey empty). Those items are all hidden.

By me, I’m seeing that it does work. If it isn’t working for you, then place text in the default value (such as Not Started, or the like) and it’ll definitely work.

However, I am noticing a severe limitation, in that the filter I set only shows Items that have said subitems. If there are any items that have no subitems or if all subitems are labeled “Done,” then they are automatically filtered out.

To resolve this issue, you could set an automation in which a new (fake) subitem is created upon item creation. This resolves the issue.

The only downside is that you then have this unnecessary subitem. However, at least you have a temporary solution for now.

Y’all make a valid point nonetheless.
