'First Day of the Week' needs Clarification

We have changed the first day of the week setting to Sunday so that our calendars match the others we use when selecting dates, etc. This puts Sunday first, and Saturday last on a row in calendar views.

However, now when we are in Timeline view on a board Sunday and the next 4 days are white and Friday and Saturday are greyed out as if they are the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are still our weekend but we prefer the format of having Sunday as the first day of the week. Maybe there needs to be two settings, one for the visual first day of the week on calendars and timelines, and one for the first day of the work week.

Did you happen to get any clarification/guidance for this issue? This seems like it should bother a lot more people if using all of Monday’s features/abilities.

Our company has the same request. Everyone wants to visually see Sunday as the first day of the week in calendars but then Timeline View shows the weekend as Friday/Saturday which is not the case in the US. This makes using the Timeline View for workload scheduling impossible because you cannot schedule work on Friday without it thinking you are overloaded since it is the “weekend”.

The ability to pick Sunday or Monday as the first day of the week AND the ability to dictate what days constitute the weekend would be a huge help.

Hey, Monday crew, please address this!
We need to be able to pick all calendar views (pages and pop-ups) to start on Sunday, but the work week to remain Monday-Friday. Please!!!

This is a duplicate of Weekend vs. First Day of Week

Please vote on the above as well if you haven’t.

I get confused every single time I try setting a date range. Monday.com really needs to consider the user’s locale when showing a calendar (doesn’t even need to be a preference) – the same way every other major calendar does it including Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Windows Calendar, and literally every other calendar I’ve come across.

Monday.com, please highly consider this. Not every project has standardized work days of Monday or Sunday to Friday. My work projects are all in the gulf region and for this, Friday is literally taken as the weekend/ off day. so basically the ideal work week in the gulf region is Saturday to Thursday. With the “Standardized” monday.com calendar, its impossible for me to have correct timelines displaying the correct total of work days. I am using the trial version at the moment but if this is an issue then, I do not see the need to purchase a tool at will give me wrong data output.

Monday team - any update on this? This is a really important feature and kind of basic, it seems like something that shouldn’t be hard to build out.

In my opinion, not preserving Saturday + Sunday as the weekend regardless of week start day is a bug. In the US, Canada, and Australia, Sunday is the first day of the calendar week. Nowhere is Saturday + Sunday not the weekend. I’ve just reported this as a bug on the support page, and I encourage others to do the same so it gets some attention:

An admin must be able to choose any day as the first day of the week according to the local legislature. Presently, Monday.com Gantt chart is useless in the MENA counties where the first day of the week is Saturday.

Israel?

But I fully agree with you. On the other hand starting the week in the middle of the weekEND is also little bit :face_holding_back_tears: :face_with_diagonal_mouth: :open_mouth:

@basdebruin That must explain why Monday.com set up the weekend options the way they did. So they’ve got everywhere except US, Canada, Australia, and much of MENA (maybe I’m missing some countries from this list too) covered, including a special option for Israel. I agree that starting the week mid-weekend is strange, but, like the Imperial System, we seem to be stuck with it at this point! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m glad this issue continues to receive attention from other users, if not from Monday.com…
