Hidden columns visible in shared dashboard charts

Description

Hi community :waving_hand:

I’ve come across a problem with shared dashboards containing charts in monday.com and wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this, or if there’s an official fix.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: When I configure a chart and use the “Choose which columns to display” option to hide all columns, it works perfectly in my own account: clicking on the chart doesn’t show any columns.

:cross_mark: However, when I share the dashboard link publicly (for example, opening it in an incognito window), clicking on any chart reveals all the board’s columns, including the ones that were hidden.

This feels like a serious security gap, since dashboard owners might assume hidden columns are safe, but external viewers can still access them through the chart.

:warning: Column permissions aren’t a workaround here, as I need some users to be able to edit and others only to view, and that combination can’t be applied to the same column.

Has this already been reported as a bug? Or is there a temporary workaround?

Hi @evertp

If you need to share dashboards publicly, the safest approach is to use sanitized data from a duplicate or filtered board that only includes non-sensitive columns.

Keep it updated via Automations (copy selected fields) or Mirror Columns (show live data if permissions allow). This protects your internal data while keeping dashboards shareable.

Hope this helps! :flexed_biceps:

Thanks for the suggestion, Zoe.
Unfortunately, this solution doesn’t work for my case, since dashboards that contain mirror columns cannot be shared via public links. Therefore, I can’t use the option of duplicating or anonymizing the data in another dashboard.

I still need a solution that allows hidden columns to remain hidden in public dashboards
