New user, so excuse me if things are obvious.
I am working on a drawing checking tracking system using Monday.com.
Drawings are placed in a certain directory and then I get assigned the drawing to be checked. I will then change the relevant person to the correct checker.
I’d like the drawing originator to give me a list of people that are qualified to do the check, if I add an additional column to the task and put potential checkers in there, they get “assigned” to the task.
I could make a generic text column but it would be nice for the originator to pull from our list of people.
I’m thinking a people column that allows people to be picked but it doesn’t “assign” them.
What about using a ‘dropdown’ column? You could list all people there, and the originator can choose multip.e
Hi Brad, this is MK from Mindflows. Welcome to Monday.com and no worries—it’s a powerful tool with lots of flexibility, so asking questions is a great way to learn!
For what you’re describing, I’d suggest using a Dropdown column rather than a Text or People column. The Dropdown column lets you pre-define a list of potential checkers (the qualified people), and then the drawing originator can simply choose from that list for each task. It’s clean, avoids confusion, and doesn’t “assign” the task like the People column does.
To set it up:
- Add a new column and select Dropdown.
- Enter the list of all qualified checkers.
- The originator can now just pick the relevant names from that list.
It’s a great way to keep the selection standardized without affecting the actual assignment workflow. Hope that helps!
That is excellent! Does exactly what I wanted.
Thank you very much.
