Current Limitation:
In the Stacked Chart widget, the order of the segments within the chart does not align with the order of the legend. Despite trying all four “Sort by” options in the widget’s customize settings, the segment and legend order remains inconsistent and unpredictable. Through testing and replication, it has been confirmed that the system currently displays the segment order randomly — sometimes reversed, sometimes unordered — without a clear, user-defined structure.
Impact:
This inconsistency negatively affects data readability and interpretation. When the legend order does not match the chart segment order, it becomes harder for users to accurately associate chart colors with their corresponding data categories, especially when working with multiple groups or categories. For users managing detailed or complex data sets, this undermines the purpose of visual clarity that a stacked chart is intended to provide.
Requested Enhancement:
Introduce functionality that allows users to set and lock a consistent order for both the stacked chart segments and the legend. Ideally, users should be able to:
- Manually define the order of categories/groups displayed.
- Ensure that the visual segment order in the chart matches the legend order without randomness.
- Optionally, provide a default setting where the legend and segments follow the same sorting logic as the board’s column or field order.
Business Use Case:
Reliable visual consistency is critical for clear reporting and executive-level presentations. Inconsistent chart formatting leads to misinterpretation and additional manual work to explain visuals, reducing the efficiency of data communication across teams.
Summary:
Enable a consistent, user-controlled segment and legend order for stacked charts to improve data visualization accuracy and user experience.
