Feature request for the “Map View” for your project boards to utilize the entered GPS Location instead of defaulting to the closest address.
Currently, the location column communicates with the map view, to give you a location marker for each of your board items. During this process it changes the marker to default to a nearby address(more specifically on-land). It does this even if you give it exact coordinates. My company works out on the water and needs to track targets offshore. It would be incredibly useful if there were a way to add another way other than “location” or “Country” so that we could use “GPS” or “Coordinate” to get a more accurate location map to show to both our teams and clients.
What actually happens when you enter coordinates in the monday.com Location column is that it uses Google Maps to find the closest address and then saves that address and its coordinates to the Location column. Therefor, when displaying this information on a map, it isn’t shown at the exact location of the coordinates.
We’ve build multiple apps around location of which 2 might help you in this case.
First of all we have the Location Toolkit with the Map Picker as one of the features. The Map Picker could be the feature you are looking for. It allows you to select a precise location on a map which will be saves to the Location column.
If you have the coordinates already in a text column or excel file our Location Importer might be the app you are looking for. With our new feature (released this week) you can convert latitude + longitude combinations into a Location column. While we might still map it to an address (so the Location column shows you the nearest address if applicable) the actual coordinates behind the scenes remain those that you entered, thus the pin on the map will show on the exact location.
Both of our apps have a free trial available and please do not hesitate to reach out if you need any help or a demo!
