I’m trying to manage a full workflow on one board where both our Development and Design teams work inside the same subitems.
Each main item represents a deliverable (for example, “District Portal”), and each subitem represents an individual component or page (Home, Login, Dashboard, etc.).
Here’s the challenge:
Both devs and designers update the same subitems, but ownership shifts depending on the phase.
When the parent item moves to Design, those subitems are handled by the Design team (status, proofing, etc.).
Once the Design phase is done, those same subitems go back to Dev for build, testing, or integration.
I want to manage that back-and-forth without duplicating boards or manually updating two places.
Has anyone set up a workflow where:
Subitems are shared between two teams,
Ownership or visibility changes based on the parent’s phase, and
Start/end tracking and statuses stay accurate through both phases?
I’d love to see examples or automation setups that make this kind of handoff smoother within one board. Or, if you have a great workflow with two boards that has great automations. HELP!!!
What about each team just having their own board view that’s filtered for items that are in their ‘status’? You can choose which columns to show each team on their view depending on their workload.

Thank you. I would like to avoid another purchase, if possible. I feel like what we are asking is standard and am unsure why Monday.com can’t handle something this simple. However, I will keep this app in mind if no alternative solution arises.

If you specifically want them to each have their own board instead of just view, then you can do what you need with a connected column and mirror columns.
