I was trying to use a mirrored column (people column) in an automation and it doesn’t give me the option to choose the mirrored column. It wants me to create a new people column. The mirrored people column is already assigned to our practices from another board. I would have no way to know who is assigned to that practice without using that mirrored column. I’ve tried the automation templates and it still doesn’t allow me to use the mirrored column. Does anyone have a different workflow that I could use to somehow bring in that column and be able to use it in an automation?
Hi Melissa, currently mirrored Status Columns are only supported as triggers in automation recipes.
A Mirrored People Column, is not supported by automations at this time. That said, what are you trying to accomplish theoretically? I’d love to learn more to see if there are any workarounds for you!
Hi Malia, This is the issue that I’ve been dealing with and it would be great if you could help me with a workaround.
Here is the background:
- I have one board that has a list of projects and then I have 3-4 columns that are People columns and a Text Column with multiple email addressed. Each project is associated with a different people from different groups. This is my main Point of Contact page.
- In my other board, it’s essentially a tracking sheet that tracks the progress of a study. I created a Connect to Board column and 3 mirror columns. The Connect to Board column is the Project column from my Contact page. The mirror columns are the associated people.
- So in my main board, when I select a project from that Connect to Board column, the associated person (their email address) will auto-populate into that column
- What I need is for the automation to be able to send an email to those 3 contacts based on a trigger in the sheet.
What would be the best workaround for this? The only option that I see is that I have a drop down menu and then my colleagues have to manually pick the person for each project. That just adds extra time and effort.
ANY INSIGHT OR HELP YOU HAVE would be GREAT! I’m struggling here!
I was using an automation that when a status changes to something that it notifies the proper people. I was trying to use the mirrored people column from another board so that I didn’t have to manually enter that information again. Which is what I ended up doing.
I do have another question though. Is there an automation, where when a formula column changes to something, it can then change a status column to reflect the size of that practice? I currently manually enter this, but would love for it to automatically do it for me.
For example; Practice A has 465 lives, so that status column would reflect the practice size “Small (201-1000)”
I’ve found success using the Autoboost app to solve this type of issue.
There is a recipe called:
“When mirror column changes, apply a formula and set the result to column”
I use this frequently to update data from mirror columns.
Hi Melissa, currently there is not an automation that would support the action you described with a Formula Column.
We do offer an automation that supports a Numbers column. However, it currently offers a less than, equal to, or greater than criteria:
There is not a recipe at this time that would look at a range of numbers, and change a status column based on that range. If you’re wish, this can be submitted directly to a dedicated section of our community page as a feature request, which is reviewed by our product team! Learn more here
Hi Savita, thanks for sharing these details! I do want to make sure I’m understanding the end goal here so I can best help
To confirm, the Text Column with multiple email addresses is being mirrored to your main board, and you want to be able to send out emails to the email addresses listed in the Mirrored Text Column. Is that right?
Hi Malia!! Yes that’s correct! So far I have not figured out how to make this happen! Any insight that you have would be appreciated! Thank you so much Malia!!!
Thanks for confirming, Savita. Currently, there is not a native integration recipe that would accomplish this.
That said, there could be a workaround using an app from our Marketplace, such as Autoboost.
This app can help you cast the results of the Mirrored Text Column to an actual Text column on your board. This way, the email addresses can be in an actual Text Column, which will therefore support the native integration recipe.
Here are a few cool recipes that you might want to try out for casting the data from one column to the other column:
Do note that autoboost was not developed by the monday.com. As such, we don’t have any control over its functionality and and can’t provide support for setting it up. To learn more check out this article.
Thanks so much Malia! That is what I thought as well. Autoboost sounds like a great app but my company is restricting all external apps for Monday.com. Otherwise, this feature would be very helpful! I guess I will just have to go back to the really old way of having my group manually pick from a dropdown and then manually pick the associated metadata.
Thank you very much for your help!!!
Savita
Hi Malia,
for some reason Monday does not allow to use my mirrored Status column in the automation recipe. So the system does not behave the way you are describing. Overall it looks like the mirror column loses it’s status column properties when created on a second board. The content is being mirrored and I can even update the status so that it is also updated back on the board where the column is being mirrored from, but the automations cannot be created
on the second sheet. What can be wrong?
Go to the automation center, choose “Templates” at the top and “Mirror” from the categories on the left. There you will find the few prebuilt recipes which CAN trigger from mirrored status columns. You are just trying to create your own recipe (not supported) instead of using the templates that do support it.
