When we started using monday.com over two years ago, I was surprised to learn that you can’t create automations that include things like Due Dates that are relative to the automation triggering date. That is, on a recurring automation that creates a new item the first day of every month, you can’t set the Due Date to be the following day.
It continues to boggle my mind that this wasn’t part of the automation system from day one. Why would I want to create a recurring task that has a fixed Due Date potentially years in the past?
I’m wondering if there’s been any progress in adding this simple functionality into the automation process?
To address the issue with monday.com not supporting relative Due Dates in automations, we can leverage a combination of monday.com and Zapier and Make to create a custom solution. This approach will enable you to set Due Dates relative to the automation triggering date.
Here’s the plan:
Trigger: Set up a recurring automation in monday.com that creates a new item on the first day of every month.
**Action in Zapier:and Make ** When a new item is created, Zapier will capture the creation date.
Calculate Relative Due Date: Zapierand make will then calculate the relative Due Date based on the creation date (e.g., setting it to the following day).
Update Item: Zapier and make will update the new item in monday.com with the calculated Due Date.
This method ensures that your recurring tasks always have appropriately set Due Dates, providing the flexibility you need.
