Reoccurring Automations on Template

Looking for some advice. We have a template that includes numerous automations. A few of the automations are for reoccuring tasks (triggered daily, weekly, or monthly etc); and we don’t want the reoccuring automations to be turned ON until someone uses the template to create a new board.

We understand that any automations set to OFF at the time of duplicating or selecting the template, the automation will not appear in the new board. Therefore, we can turn them on before we duplicate or select the template. However, I believe that there maybe a better solution. Any other ideas? These automations include triggers such as Every Week, create an Item.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Buffy! We have a similar situation where we have our templates with automations! We do have them turned off and then when someone creates a new board with the template, they turn them on AFTER. We found that it works best this way so that we can doublecheck that the automation is still relevant to that board, and can turn on when it makes sense. (Ex: they’re setting up the board for a team, but don’t need the automations to begin until it’s ready to be shared with the rest of the team.) Someone may have a different piece of advice, but that’s what works best for our team!

Thank you Rachel! This is probably the best work around. Quick question, you mentioned that you turn ON the automations after. Do you mean after creating the board from the template? Or do you turn on the automations you want (using the template) and then create the new board from that template? Then you go back and turn off the automations on the template? That’s the only work around we have come up with. Thank you for your help!

Hey Buffy! Sorry for the late response - my week got away from me!!

We create the automations in the template, but keep them turned off. Then, when we duplicate the template, we turn them on after when we’re ready!

Thank you, Rachel, this is great information! I appreciate your team’s help.
