Sum of values in subitems column reflected in parent item column

I’d love to have the sum of subitems in a number column be reflected in the parent item of the main column.

Example: I use the number column to list out budgets for projects, and sometimes there are subitems for certain projects with their own individual budgets. I’d like the sum of those subitem budgets to be reflected in the parent item column.

There appears to be a paid app Rollup Subitems (monday.com: Where Teams Get Work Done) that should achieve this, but looking for something native to the functionality. Similar question previously listed here as well, so there is a definite demand for this

You can use a mirror column in the parent that sums the subtotal of the sub-items, and then just create a grand total with the parent’s budget and the sub-item’s budget.
