When you create a dashboard and use the timeline widget the parent and subtasks colors should match. Currently they are different colors and at a glance the color differences make them look unique, when they should be paired together, not only in order, but in color.
Unfortunately, monday.com doesn’t currently have an automatic way to inherit colors from parent to subtasks in the timeline widget. This is a known limitation of the platform.
However, You can automate the synchronization of parent and subtask colors in Monday.com using Make.com. Start by creating a scenario that triggers whenever a task and subtask is created or updated. Use the “Watch Items” and “Watch Subitems” trigger to detect changes in your Monday.com board. Once triggered, use the “Get an Item” action to fetch details of the parent task, including its color or status, ensuring you have the necessary information for synchronization. Next, apply the parent’s color to the subtask using the “Update an Item” action, aligning their appearance to enhance visual consistency.
To address existing mismatched colors, set up a batch process. Use the “Search Items” action to identify all parent tasks and their associated subtasks. Iterate through each pair, ensuring subtasks are updated to match their respective parent task’s color or status. This step helps bring the entire board into alignment.
Finally, schedule the scenario to run at regular intervals or set it to trigger automatically whenever a relevant event occurs on the board. This process ensures parent and subtask colors remain synchronized over time, reducing visual confusion and improving the readability of your timeline widget for effortless task tracking and organization.
