I figured out a way to accomplish this without a marketplace app. You just have to approach the problem backwards. Instead of populating a column with input from your updates, create an update when your team updates a column.
- Create a text column to your board and label it something like ‘Update/Next Steps’.
- Create a new automation to create an update when the column changes.
- ‘When this happens’ = “column changes”.
- Click the ‘column’ placeholder and select your ‘Update/Next Steps’ column.
- ‘Then do this’ = “create update”.
- Click the ‘this text’ placeholder and use the board items building blocks to automatically pull in the latest text input from ‘Update/Next Steps’ as well as any additional information you might want.
- The update will be created by the Automation user, so I use something like this in the 'this text 'message to identify the user making the update:
{user name} added an update to {project’s Name}.
Project Status: {project’s Project Status}
Latest Update: {project’s Update/Next Steps}
You can use the Board Updates Widget to review all the latest updates from your board, but the method I’ve laid out allows you to easily view the latest updates from your team on every project without having to click into each item, while keeping record of previous updates in the item update feed.

This is a solid work-around, but upvoting to support a Monday feature so that’s not even needed.

Alternatively, this case can be addressed with the Board Email Reports app. There are 2 types of automated reports on a board and item level. On an item level you can get the following reports:
- Updates by a specific employee
- Updates mentioning a specific employee
- Updates containing attachments
- Status updates
- Last updates
In this case, we need the Last updates report that will generate automated reports every day or week/month with consolidates updates. You will get an email with a detailed xls-report on item updates in the descending order by date. This is how it looks:
