Hi,
I’m new on Monday.com.
I don’t really understand the difference between a Project and a Board.
As i understand, both has the same functionality
Someone can help me?
Thanks
Hey Marsoux! They are very similar so your confusion is totally understandable!
A board is the place where your groups of items are held. It’s a virtual whiteboard where projects are stored as a way to keep track of everything from everyday tasks to month/year long projects.
A project board creates a link between the current project and your portfolio board, so that everything stays synced and aligned at all times.
Does this help clarify?
Thank you @CharlotteK for your reply.
I understand better the difference now
Hi Charlotte,
I too am new to Monday (long time Jira user). I am still a little confused. So a board is a view of your project that rolls into your portfolio?
Thank you!
Thanks for the explanation! Just to make sure I’m following. when you say a project board links to the portfolio board, are you talking about a specific feature in Monday.com, like connected boards or mirrored columns? Or is that just how your team sets things up?
Hey Matthew and Faye! Shannon here with the monday team. Stepping in for Charlotte. I hope you are both doing well!
The screenshot included in the initial post showcases both a project board and a board, separately. Within monday, the hierarchy is: account > product > workspace > workspace folder (if applicable) > board. A board houses your content or data.
A project board is part of our portfolio solution, a feature that is only available to users on the Enterprise Plan tier.
Our developers have programmed project boards to instantly sync to a portfolio that the project board has been added to. There is no need for a user to manually, or via automations, individually connect items across the project board and portfolio in a Connect Boards Column.
If your account is not on the Enterprise Plan, you will not see the ability to create a project board or portfolio from the plus icon in your workspace. This means that you will need to manually, or via automations, set up a connection between your boards if you are looking to replicate this structure and relationship. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
