Why doesn't the TEXT formula recognize the R?

I feel I’m being stupid so please forgive my ignorance if this is simple.

But why when I try to reformat the result of a formula COLUMN using TEXT() it only takes into account symbols, aren’t regular letters “allowed”?

"R" & TEXT(({Agua}+{Gas}), "$#")
