Please I need that. We’re having issues… where we can connect subitems with boards… but there’s no automations to create items from subitems… and we have to manually link items.
yeah so we did this connection but we’re unable to create items with the connections in the automations… we have to manually go to the destination board, type the item and then link it.
We developed an app that solves this exact case of automatically linking between subitem and its parent item. See example below -
Automatically linking item to its parent item so you can use mirrors -
We’re constantly adding new capabilities You can find it in the monday.com marketplace in the platform or here - monday.com: Apps Marketplace
Hope that helps!
Hello @BiancaT !
I successfully did [and I don’t know how, kkk] a two-way connection between subitens in different boards as you can see in this video.
Can you help me, and us, to do it again?
It would be amazing! tks

Hi Francisco, I have similar subitems in my boards. Apparently this is a non-supported feature that is possible when you duplicate a board that was connected to another board. Let me see if I can explain in words:
- Create Board A
- Create Item A.1
- Create Board 1
- Create Item 1
- Create Subitem 1.1
- add a column to connect boards (both directions) on Subitem 1.1 and connect to Item A.1 on Board A
- Now duplicate Board 1 (entirely)
- Rename it to Board 2
- Rename Subitem 1.1 to Subitem 2.1
On the connect column you created in Board A you will now have a selection of Subitems of both Boards 1 & 2. You will be able to select Subitem 1.1 and Subitem 2.1
This is possible but not really a feature created by monday.com (as I said, they name it a non-supported feature). I find it extremely helpful and have it working on multiple boards. I was also struggling like you to repeat something I had in my boards but had lost clue on how I’d gotten there. Only after discussing my situation with monday.com support did I understood how I got there (duplication of boards and subsequent duplication of the underlying connection to other boards)
Hope this helps…boa sorte

This was a challenge for me too but I was able to figure out how to connect subitems on board A to subitems on board B with the steps below!
- Create main item 1 on Board B.
- Create main item 2 on Board B (this item will be changed to a subitem later on).
- Create a connect column for the main items on Board B and connect it to Board A.
- Using the connect column just created, connect main item 2 on Board B, to a subitem on Board A.
- Select main item 2 on Board B and convert it to a subitem under main item 1 on Board B. When you get the pop up window to map the columns from the main item to the subitem, click the dropdown menu next to the connect column, and select ‘+Add as new column’. When you’re finished mapping the rest of the columns, click the ‘Move item’ button.
Done! You should now have a connect column on Board B’s subitem level, that connects to subitems on Board A. Hope this helps
