There must be an existing question/answer somewhere on this board for this very basic issue, but I can’t find it. I want to create a new table view where I can group by Item Name. But it looks like you can’t, that’s the one field that Monday doesn’t present (for whatever reason).
Okay fine, I’ll create a sortable name column and mirror the Item Name to this column. Nope that doesn’t work either.
Okay, surely there’s a default automation that can copy/link the Item Name to another column. If there is, I haven’t found it. Please don’t suggest a paid solution.
While I appreciate the fact that there are 3rd parties that have solved for things like this, the fact that this very fine community of Monday.com enthusiasts have to solve time and time again for SIMPLE functionality, constantly makes me question my platform selection. But hey, we’ve got AI
Any help would be greatly appreciated, again, maybe I’m missing something super obvious.
And I’ll admit, I’m going to be shamed by my own post. Monday AI (kinda?) solved this for me . I don’t love this method, as I’m not sure about its reliability. It does seem to choke on some cells sometimes, but not all the time. e.g. a field that had a value of Seamus would work in one cell but not another (same board, same column). I eventually got around this by being very specific with my prompt to accept all characters exactly how they’re displayed in the Name (Issues) default column, but it did still seem to choke on special characters. Fortunately my Name column shouldn’t have special characters.
Still, if there’s something that’s more reliable I’d love to know.
