Adding an Item Description tab in "start a conversation"

In the “start a conversation” of an Item/sub-item, I think it would be super convenient to add a “description” tab (next to Updates, Activity Log & Item Card). So we can have an item description that can be edited by any board owner (since updates cannot be updated by anyone but the person who wrote it) while having the same text customizations as the “Updates” (since the text box at the column level does not offer this), and without adding clutter at the item/sub-item level. It’s something i’ve noticed a few people ask about and it could definitely be a great way to streamline information internally. :sunny:

For god sakes please add this! It’s such a no-brainer. I recently had a conversation with a product manager who refuses to use Monday because of this.

A separate tab would be great. I’d personally prefer the ability to just tag an update as a description, where it would live at the top of the update feed, be editable by any board owner and stay as a description if you copy a board (right now pinned updates lose their pin when copied).

Monday.com has just released some new features in the files column that may help you get a close solution to what you are thinking about.

If you add the Files column, you can use a monday.com Doc which will allow for full editable privileges for anyone who is on the board.

Can’t you use a pinned update to describe what the item is about? It will stay on top in your updates.

Kind of. Pinned updates aren’t editable by anyone but the author. They also don’t retain their “pin” when a board is copied and moved which is annoying when duplicating large projects.

Docs could work but is really cumbersome for such a basic function.

The fact is the real question is why isnt a default feature of any other software that involves a “task” exist here. Task managers as basic as Apple reminders include the ability to describe a task. I honestly can’t think of a single one besides Monday that doesn’t have this functionally and that’s for a reason

We used the card description a lot in Trello before switching to Monday and sad to not see this feature here…

Having a single description where anyone could edit is very helpful when jotting down quick notes about the task, with bullet points etc. Then if a PM, Lead Developer or Key Team member is in a client meeting and a task changes slightly they can just edit the item description ( anyone can edit ) and the whole team can simply read the item description and know what to do.

We use this a lot for retainer clients, mapping out the tasks ahead of time, attach files and descriptions to task for clarity among team members.

Would be amazing if this could be added!
