Auto Populate Column Attached to Mirrors Using Data from Another Board

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working with connected boards and could use some guidance on automations. Here’s my setup:

  1. I have a board called Hub Articles 2024, which includes a text column named Submitter Name.

  2. There’s an existing automation in Hub Articles 2024 that creates a new item in a second board, L2 Articles 2024, but only if the item belongs to a specific group (L2).

  3. L2 Articles 2024 is connected to three mirrored columns that pull information relevant to the Submitter Name.

Here’s the issue: while the automation creates the new item in L2 Articles 2024, it doesn’t populate the Submitter Name column in this board. I’d like to know if there’s a way to automatically populate the Submitter Name column in L2 Articles 2024 with data from the corresponding column in Hub Articles 2024 when the new item is created.

Is this possible within the existing automations, or would I need to set up an additional integration or use a workaround?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

It seems odd that it isn’t already working… Is it a two way connect column? I think you may need another automation. Type in match in automation template center to see your options. You will need to match the items somehow though with data from a column.

Hey Bruce - thanks for coming back to me.

It’s an awkward one because information is essentially being duplicated from the board in the first screenshot to the board in the second. The Submitter Name field in the second screenshot is connected to and pulling information from a different Team List board. When a user enters a name in the Submitter Name field, it gives the option to select a team member from a dropdown, henceforth populating the columns Title, Team and Email in that second screenshot.

The awkwardness is such that the two Submitter Name fields, one in each of the first two screenshots, are different column types; one being a linked column and one being a plain text column. As there are two different boards to reference from L2 Articles 2024 (team list and hub articles 2024), the Submitter Name column won’t connect to both.

I imagine that there may be a much better way of doing it than I have figured thus far so any inspiration is appreciated. In the meantime, I will check out the match automation.

Thanks again!
