Yep! You can use an automation. Set a trigger ie status change or column change - Create item in board (select which columns to map), then connect them.
Hey Zack! Thanks for sharing your use case with us. Shannon here with the monday team. From what you’ve shared, a match automation should help achieve what you’re looking for!
If you open up the Automation Center, in the search bar under “Create,” enter “match.” The following automations will appear:
This automation will link items in the Connect Boards Column using a matching or shared value across both of your boards. Taking a closer look at your screenshot, it looks like the item names are shared. Please note that this automation is very specific so the shared values must match exactly. As an example, on the current board, you have an item titled “Agco.” However, on the connected board, the associated item is titled “AGCO.” For these two items, the automation would not run as the values do not match exactly. You will need to ensure that the shared values have the same spelling, spacing, capitalization, and characters on both boards.
If you have any questions on how to utilize one of the match automations, let me know! It’d be helpful to understand when items from your connected board are linked. What actions take place on the current board before your team links the connected item?
I guess you have been asking to add values in the connected column with already present items (without creating any items in any of the 2 boards.)
Additionally, looking at the image I think you have different information in 2 separate boards regarding the same items and you want to connect all the same available items in both fields.
For this I would suggest using the following automation in the mentioned way:
Create an unique item column (e.g email, phone no, project id) in both boards.
Place values against all the items in one board.
Create this automation in the board (in which the new created column values are not present).
Start placing the same values against respective items in this board.
Each item should itself get connected to the item in the other board with same column value.
