Our current need is this: We have a board with 115 items, each of which have the same 6 steps (i.e. subitems) which need to be completed. We have 5 engineers who will be performing the work. I need to be able to create an automation that says: “When John Doe is assigned to an item, then assign John Doe to all subitems”. Setting up an automation to create a subitem and assign a specific person when the subitem is created isn’t an option because it would only be correct 1/5 of the time.
The inability to do this is creating a lot of manual work.
My company adopted Monday.com last year and overall it has helped us to better manage projects. But we are increasingly frustrated with the lack of automation capabilities for subitems. We have several large projects which require a standardized approach and subitems are essential.
Hey Donna. Would something like this work for you? The ‘when item is created’ trigger could be swapped out for the trigger that you works for your team. Then you add the rest of the subitems with the people assignment for ‘Liam’ in this automation. Then you duplicate this automation out for each engineer that you have, changing the condition to look for their assignment, and changing the subitems so that they are assigning the proper person.
We developed an app that solves this exact pain point of subitems inherting column value from parent. It’s called Subitem Automations and it allows to do this on subitem creation and when the parent item changes, here’s an example -
On creation - Populate item’s data into its subitems in a seamless way
