Board Grouping Compatible with Dropdown Label Column

@JoseV Completely agree with you, there should be a way to “Group By” multiple types of columns, including the Dropdown Label column. I understand from this post (Group by based on a Dropdown or Tag) that the “Group By” feature is not available for all columns type that could have more than one result. This feature request is also related to yours: Group by Dropdown column

To add on the necessity of this feature, here is a brief description of our use-case to manage projects. We have these boards right now:

  • A Project overview board that lists all our projects, their status and some key metrics.
  • A Contacts board, that list all the individual contacts we use in our projects. Every contact is linked (via a bi-directional connection) to a company on the “Company” board.
  • A Companies board, that list every company we work with. Companies are linked to the relevant “Contacts” (via the same bi-directional column)
  • A Project board for each project. In these boards, we can connect sub-items to a contact on the “Contact” board, and have mirror columns to show relevant information.

The issue we are facing is that we would like to be able to see easily the Contacts board and the Companies board in different ways, depending on the need. For example, here are the needs we mostly have right now:

  1. Find a contact with a specific label for a new project (like, all the “Lawyers” we have). We do this right now with a “Label”. This is mostly useful for project managers that are looking for a specific professional.
  2. Find all the contacts that worked on a specific project. Right now, since a specific “Contact” can be on multiple project (if we use the same architect, for example), we can’t automatically sort them by “Project”.

We’d like to be able to “Group By” a column that allows multiple choices to be selected. A dropdown listing all our “project IDs” was perfect for this, but we can’t group using it. We also thought about using a “Connect board” column linking to our “Overview” board (which would be great too), but it’s not possible to group by this column if multiple items are allowed to be selected.

Right now, to circumvent this issue, we had to create multiple duplicate contacts (one by project), and group them via a “Label” column (with our projects). It’s less than ideal since we now need to manage multiple duplicates of the same contacts to be able to have easy access to what we need, or have to rely on using filters every time. We don’t really like to have to decide between having up-to-date and accurate information and presenting it in a way that is easy for our team’s needs, which we need to do right now.

Hope that Monday can add this much needed feature!
