I see there is an automation that when Status changes AND IF status is X, then create an item in board B and connect them.
However, I’m looking for the same recipe with JUST connecting the items, without the need to create an item in board B.
The idea being that if an event happens and status is X, then just connect the item to another item in board B.
I’d love for this option to be available.

You can use the link-to-item column along with automations to sync statuses between boards (without creating new items in Board B).
By setting up the automation with a mirror column connected to the link-to-item column, you should hopefully be able to achieve just connecting existing items based on status changes

Hi David,
If you look in the templates in the automation center, there are 2 automations that allow you to link items without creation. These recipes are only available in the templates, not when you create an automation from scratch.
You can o in the “connected boards” section, then you will find these 2 automations in the middle of others.
Please tell me if you don’t find them, I’ll send you screenshots.

Hi David, unfortunately you can’t create conditions with the ‘Match’ Automations yet as far as I have seen. I think there is an app that can do it but I’m not 100% on that either for this usecase (maybe Autoboost, I would start there as it starts free). If you can’t use apps on your Account then your best bet for the time being is to have a specific status (or other column which you can automate) for connecting and use the second match automation (type in match in automation templates, and match name with name if that suits).

I realized that although I cannot do so via automations, I was able to do it via workflows. It’d be cool if it’d be accessible through automations as well.
