Create item in connected board and link both items

I must be overlooking something, because this must be possible. I have two boards, Board A and Board B, and A is connected to B. When a new item is created in A I need a new item created in B and be connected.

I can achieve the first part, created the item in Board B, but it isn’t connected to the new item in Board A. Yes, I can manually click on either connected column in both boards (there is a two way connection) and connect them, but I need this automated.

The goal is to treat the items in Board B as like sub items to the items in Board A. I need to do this because each has unique column and automation needs. And I need our users to be able to click the connected and mirrored columns in Board A to see the items connected in Board B.

I discovered how to do this. I think it can’t be done by a custom automation, but I found a template under “item creation” called, “when an item is created create an item in board and connect boards with column.”

I am currently using this automation template, but sometimes the connected board pulls info from another task instead of the one created. It works the way it is supposed to about half the time. Any idea why this might be happening?
