Hi there, I am new to Monday and would like to set up some automations to create a calendar view of work schedules. I have created the automation so that each work schedule “item” is created every Monday and the dates for each “item” get pushed to the correct days, but each “item” only displays as a 30 minute slither in the calendar view and does not slot into any time slot in the calendar view. I would like the “items” to display in blocks of time relative to each shift, ie 1pm-4pm on Tuesday, 9am-1pm on Wednesday etc. and beautomated to sit in these time blocks every week. Could someone advise on how to do this please? I have a “standard” account. Many thanks.
Welcome to Monday.com! You’re on the right track with automating work schedule items and using the calendar view. The issue you’re facing—items appearing as 30-minute slivers without proper time blocks—is likely due to how Monday.com handles date vs. time fields.
Here’s how to fix it:
1. Use a Date Column with Time Enabled
- Go to your board and open the column settings for your Date column.
- Make sure “Include Time” is enabled.
- This allows you to specify both start date/time and end date/time.
2. Add a Second Date Column for End Time
- Monday.com’s calendar view supports start and end times if you have two date columns:
- One for Start Date/Time
- One for End Date/Time
- You can rename them something like “Shift Start” and “Shift End”.
3. Update Your Automation
- When creating your automation to generate weekly items, make sure it:
- Sets the Start Date/Time (e.g., Monday at 1pm)
- Sets the End Date/Time (e.g., Monday at 4pm)
- You may need to use custom automations or integrations (like Integromat/Make or Zapier) if the built-in automation builder doesn’t support setting both times directly.
4. Configure the Calendar View
- In your calendar view settings:
- Set the Start Date Column to “Shift Start”
- Set the End Date Column to “Shift End”
- This will display each item as a block spanning the correct time range.
On the Standard Plan
You should have access to:
- Calendar view
- Date columns with time
- Basic automations
If you find that you can’t set time ranges via automation, you might need to use a third-party tool like Make.com to handle more complex logic. If this helps let me know with a like or feel free to ask more!
