Cross-board formula implementaton

Wow this would be great !! Any news?

I need this also
I have client security company. The guards scan a QR code and we log the time stamp but need to cross reference another board with the schedule so we can associate a guard with the QR scan based on the time stamp of the scan and the work schedule that that time fell in.

+1 this

@sheliker doesn’t mirroring resolve your issue? You add a column and choose the board you’d like to cross reference, and then for each time stamp you choose the guard and time schedule. You can even have a formula column that does a formula based on your current board and the cross referenced board’s data.

For example I have a board called “Accounts” that holds the names of clients, suppliers and so forth. I have a column called balance. I then have another board called “Transactions” and in that board I have a column called “Account” which cross-references the “Accounts” board. In the “Accounts” board I have a balance column as a “mirror” column which mirrors transactions from the transaction board with a mirrored “Amount” column. I then hide the transaction column in the “Accounts” board so only the balance shows. In the “Transactions” board as soon as I click “Account” column and choose “Customer 1”, “Customer 1” updates automatically in the board “Accounts”. You can then use formulas on mirrored columns allowing you to formulate columns from unlimited boards, across boards.

I’m confident you can do what you’re looking to do already in Monday @sheliker

Mirroring means you only have a single source board “sending” the info to the destination board.

It’s simply not good enough.

The easiest would be to format the output of a formula. Such as “Formula Result is Text”. Then allow column match as part of the crossboard automation recipe.

I also would love to see this implemented. I have two boards (Tasks & Completed). Once a task has been completed it is then moved to the completed board. I am looking to set up a new board to track client projects using the hashtag for example:

Client 1 has #Project1 tag attached to each completed item on the completed board. I would like a formula in this new board I am creating which will query the completed board by the hashtag and do a sum of the completed time within a given timeframe (day, week or month). This would output the necessary information onto the new board. At the moment, formulas only support the board you are working on and it would be a fantastic and flexible addition to have cross board formulas which will open up new ways for the Monday community to interact with their boards.

It’s been a year and a half since requested here. Any progress on it?

@staff any updates on this?

another +1 from me.
Highly needed

Another +1 here. Smartsheet does this through their sheet reference feature in formulas. Another reason to do it in order to stay competitive!

Reading different request here. If the request is to use a value from another board I would suggest to copy (and keep in sync) that value to the board where you want tu use the formula. Especially when the item in “the other board” has a unique key, you can easily use this Match Index Column app (see https://monday.com/marketplace/129). With this app you copy the value in a given column from the source board to the target board (in the original column type). Now - on your target board - you can create a formula referencing that copied value (which will be always in sync as guaranteed by the app).

Hope that helps.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to jump in to gather some further clarity about this request. At this time, you are able to include connected items and mirrored columns in formula columns. Am I correct in understanding you’d like to more easily be able to reference columns (from different boards) within the formula, without having to use the mirror/connect boards column?

I would definitely love to have that capability. Our PMO manages up to 100 projects a year and track KPIs that are linked to individual board tasks. For example, each project has its own board that needs to “roll up” into a main portfolio board. We have about 8 tasks that we track for KPIs - each is repeated on the individual project boards. I need a way to roll up the date from those individual tasks onto the main portfolio board. I can’t find a way to do that through mirror columns and would love to be able to create a formula referencing another board and filter to task name in order to populate the date on the main portfolio board

+1 for me, this would be very useful!

+1 for me, this would be very useful!

is there a schema that shows how these references should be made within the formula code @BiancaT ? I’m very comfortable with code, just don’t feel like building an entire app just so that i can have a column reference one value primarily and a second if that one is empty.

Adding a + 1 here.

I am trying to setup Monday to work more like some of the Agile softwares I have used.
I am wanting to implement the following:

I currently have a table with each sprint
A table with all backlog items that is linked to the sprint table
A table with each team members capacity.

The backlog table also has an Estimated, Completed and Remaining hours.
My goal is to create a burn down chart and get an overview of remaining time to be worked and remaining capacity. I can create the formulas for what I need, but to do so, I need a way to see the total amount of remaining work per person. Unfortunately, because I cannot get the total of work remaining for each person and display that on the capacity table in each person’s row, I am having an issue.

I think the above request would help, but if anyone is aware of any other solutions, please share.

+1 for me, this would be very useful. I thought this is already available. Im trying to move all what we are doing in Google Sheet to Monday.com

There are some complex examples here, but the one that keeps coming up is to request specific information based upon a status or data in the current board.

My redundant need example is simple logic.

If X column data in Board 1 = X column data in Board 2, then display Board 2 data.

Data I need includes names of people, teams/departments, times, dates, days of the week, every kind of number, etc., all based upon avoiding entering redundant data that may change in the “source” board and not be updated in the other boards.

If I could add a filter or conditional statement in the Connect/Mirror columns, life would be easier.

If that exists and I missed it, please let me know. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

we’re excited to share some new features in our Spreadsheet Gorilla app, which now enables you to execute cross-board formulas.

In essence, our app lets you treat your monday.com boards as if they were individual worksheets within a spreadsheet. You can execute custom formulas across different worksheets/boards and directly update board items with the results of these formulas.

To get a quick overview, check out this explainer video:

You can find our app in the marketplace:
