Dear Development Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share a feature request that has been echoed by many in our community regarding the customization and reusability of color options for status columns. This enhancement would significantly improve the flexibility and usability of our boards, especially for teams that depend heavily on status columns to visually represent different stages or outcomes.
Currently, we are limited to a color palette of 40 colors, which can be restrictive for users who want to employ similar shades across different statuses or categories. The inability to reuse colors across multiple labels and the absence of a customizable color picker has created some challenges in terms of maintaining a clean and consistent visual design. This is particularly impactful when trying to adhere to specific branding guidelines, or when trying to categorize multiple statuses that are conceptually similar (e.g., grouping different shades of green for completed tasks).
Some of the specific community requests include:
-
Custom Colors via Hex Codes: Users have expressed a strong desire for a color picker that allows them to define custom colors using hex codes or RGB values. This would allow for greater alignment with branding requirements and improve the overall look of shared boards with clients and leadership.
-
Reusing Colors for Multiple Labels: There is a significant demand for the ability to use the same color across multiple status labels. This would allow users to visually link similar statuses without being forced to use different colors, reducing the “rainbow effect” that can make boards visually overwhelming.
-
Color Consistency Across Board Elements: Users would appreciate consistency in color options between status columns and other elements, such as group names. Making all colors available across different board elements would provide greater control and flexibility.
The community has repeatedly expressed that this is not about adding more colors but rather about giving users control over how they use colors. Implementing customizable colors, and allowing the same color to be used across different labels, would enhance workflow clarity, reduce visual clutter, and improve the overall user experience.
This feature would not only support better organization but also make boards look more cohesive and professional, particularly when sharing with external clients. Additionally, having an option for a “no color” status could help simplify board layouts where too many colors are currently overwhelming.
We understand that changes like this can take time to implement, but given the extent of community feedback and the practical benefits for day-to-day users, we kindly request you consider prioritizing this in your roadmap.
Thank you very much for considering this request, and for continuously working to improve the platform to meet the needs of your users. We truly appreciate your dedication and look forward to seeing how Monday.com evolves.
