Looking for a solution, or possibly I am just not using the proper toolset.
We have a board of “jobs”
I created a button called move to A, move to B, etrc that moves duplicates and moves to another group. We do this to keep the list of jobs inventory and we add those to these other job boards when the customer requests a new task…
It works well except is add the word (copy) to the end… is there anyway around this? I just want to move it in as a new item without deleting or moving from original or original board or having (copy) behind it
Hi @ApexxDrone - this is certain an annoyance with monday, sadly the only way around this is to use 3rd party apps like Column Magic that will remove the
“(copy)” from the name, or utilize a tool like make.com to remove the text or manage the process outside of monday.
Likely not the answer you were looking for, however those are the options I am aware of.
Thanks!
Mark
I use Mondayman.com to manage things like this. It’s a reasonable integration and their support team is very helpful to get you set up.
This the right domain? Take me to a purchase link?
No sorry…it’s themondayman.com/
Yep! column magic/ mirror columns/ and better math all through the Monday man work fabulous!
That’s kind of the problem. It’s a bit like, “My car randomly performs this unwanted action.” and the manufacturer responding, “Yes we’re aware. We sell an after market part that stops it from randomly beeping the horn in traffic.” When the answer is for the maker of the product to fix it.
@ApexxDrone here is one solution without 3rd party apps:
Add a text column to your “jobs” board, and then use AI automation to copy the item name to that column (Custom block with AI). You can collapse/hide this later.
When items are duplicated, the item name will still have (copy) at the end, but you can fix this in the automation mapping when moving the item to another board: Set the new text column as the item name.
If you want to remove (copy) when item is not moved to another board, you will have to use 3rd party app as mentioned by others.
A workaround is to not use the “duplicate” automation.
Instead use “create item in board”, and then select the destination board as the one you’re currently in, and fill in all the fields of the new item with the info from the source item (this should be done by default), except any fields you’d like to change (like the group the new item will be created in).
This doesn’t copy updates or item history though.
aggreed the ‘‘copy’’ is so annoying
The Monday Magic Formulas help me no end - they have one that removes the (copy) which I use a lot along with the Mirror copy function that duplicates a mirror column into another column
I would add, that though its not in Column Magic from The Monday Man, it is in Update Magic - there is a recipe that does the copy and removes (copy) in a single action. Why is this of value? Well, every account has a limited number of automation or integration actions - and doing it this way uses one, and using regular duplicate and the separate remove copy automation uses 2.
Pro accounts only get 25000 actions a month (this is irrespective of operations from The Monday Man app), standard are even more limited at 250! These are another resource you need to consider in your workflow planning.
