I am new to Monday.com; Q: if I select Duplicate Item and Updates and then move that copy to another board - if someone updates the original item on the original board, will it automatically update in the duplicate location board?

No, it won’t be updated in the duplicated board. The duplication feature is only related to the creation of the item, to incorporate more or less information to the new item.
If you needed that similar function you should use the link and mirror columns.
