Enter date versus scrolling to find date on date picker

Adding my vote to this! As we are using the boards for historical research, we are entering dates like 1936 which require a lot of scrolling back on the date picker. Would be much easier to type them in (like you can on Airtable… just sayin’ :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

+1 for this! There is no reason it should take like 30 clicks to enter a single date. Click the Month/Year to open the list of years, scroll over to the group containing the year, click the year. Click the side arrows to scroll over to the month. Click the day. It is super tedious for something that is to totally fundamental to a task tracking and project tracking app, everything is linked to dates.

Yes!!! It would also be nice to have the option for only month/year. Currently I just use the first of each month but scrolling through dates and years is definitely a hassle. I am currently going through an entire board from a sales rep to change dates because the info pulled the year 2001 for every entry. It his entire year of sales / quotes! It is a lot!

I agree - I receive updated lists of expected delivery dates for large numbers of items. There seems to be no way to just copy and paste these into a column and without changing the field - I can’t even type, I have to select via calendar (which is very frustrating if the item is not due in for many months). This makes it very time consuming for a job which would take literally 2 seconds in Excel. (To be clear, I don’t want to import the entire spreadsheet to a new board, I just want to be able copy a single column of information to an existing board).

Yikes. I feel this. I recently had to enter the sales records of multiple people… multiple years. With 2 dates per record. I even went straight to support and requested this lol.

Itemizing dated items with this calendar is torture!!! Really, this is insane! There 100% needs to be an option to type in a date without this calendar selection!!!

Agree! This should be a feature!

This is so true and such a pain for any date more than about a month out. Monday team, any update on whether this can be added to the roadmap?

Please please please!

 I have sent this as feedback prior joining the community here. Got my upvote, it was (and is) painful having to add loads of (very) old dates with the date picker.

I need to reduce the number of clicks it takes to enter in a date in a date type column so that I can quickly add numbers instead of click/scrolling and move on to my next tasks with less finger strain more quickly.

It’s shocking this isn’t standard. It is extremely tedious to manually choose dates for every task. Please give us the option to type and copy-paste dates in.

We need to be able to type, as well as copy/paste into a date column. Copy and past cells from excel anywhere in a board should also work. It works from excel > google, and google > excel… so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Hello @tapethis,
You can actually do this with the Toolkit app.
Just copy from which ever source and the app will paste it directly into your chosen column. You can even select which item to start pasting from.

Also, in answer to everyone, you can use the app to type the desired date and paste it into monday.com.

If you need any help, you can always write to us at support@kolaai.com

Is this on the roadmap yet? This is such a point of pain for people. <3

YES!! I used Monday.com for HR and having to enter a date for someone’s DOB in 1955 is ridiculous :woman_facepalming:t4:

This is such a basic usability requirement. Typing dates is many times faster than clicking through a calendar!

Adding another vote in favor of this. There are a number of things where it would be helpful to use the timeline feature to track things that took place over a long period of time. Every single time I try to enter a timeframe like this, it will take multiple attempts of jumping back and forth between the start and end date to get it right. Usually what happens is that when I click the second date, it overrides the first date I selected and I need to hunt down that date again. Especially when I’m manually entering dates that I don’t have memorized from an external document the system tends to get mad if I shift tabs to remind myself what dates I’m entering.

Typing a date is allowed for single date fields in forms, but because forms cannot update existing items that would only help in initial task creation.

You can actually use forms to update existing items if you use the Duplicates and Uniques app. Here is an example

YES! Please, it’s highly inefficient to have to scroll to select a date every time. (In addition to this, if something is in calendar form, it would be nice to be able to make the calendar sun-sat if you are not accustomed to a mon-sun layout)
