+1, Please please please please create a way to manually type in the date vs. use the picker. I do title research and I often have to use very old dates. Also, when I export to Excel, there’s a glitch were Excel recognizes dates from 1900> but nothing older than 1900. I realize this doesn’t affect a lot of people but it would be great if it could be figured out why a date in the 1800’s can’t be recognized after export to Excel.
Thanks for taking the time to share your suggestion. Great minds think alike – our development team is already working on the capability to manually enter the date on the date picker.

We use the date column a lot. For example, at HR we need to put in the birthday. It’s much faster to type in the date then selecting it via the date picker. Users are now always obliged to use the date picker which in this case is unhandy. You can imagine if you need to fill multiple date records like 02-04-1969 this is much slower via date picker. So it would be nice that in addition or as a replacement users could key entry a date.

There are occasions where manually typing a date into a date column is much quicker than clicking on the field and searching through the months to find the correct date.
I’m implementing a document register / review board and some of the effective dates are in the past, in some cases a couple of years ago. I did import my existing register from excel to monday.com but I didn’t notice that some of the data was not matching. It was too late to start again.
I now need to manually go through and amend a few fields. It would be quicker to manually type in the date using the keyboard. What is everyone’s thoughts o this?
I fully agree. Inputting birthdays seems faster by typing from keyboard then clicking through years, then months and dates.
This is absolutely mind boggling to me that a user can’t set up a new board using solely the keyboard. I cannot be alone in this sentiment.
My use case/ask: I’m setting up a new board based on a project schedule and after I have my columns set up, I would like to click once in the top left project cell and type my input, tab, hit spc/enter to activate the next for the menu, short cut keys or use arrow keys to selection, enter or tab to next field and so on. This is especially frustrating when it comes to DATES. Like when entering a series of deadlines we should absolutely have the ability to mouse our way to the date or, in my case, when my deadline is more than a year out, be able to type the date in MMDDYY (localization appropriate) format and keep on rolling.
Well, I think the easiest way is typing manually a date into a date column using keyboard than clicking sections of years, months and dates. This process is easy and quick. But sometimes we don’t have the option to write date manually from keyboard. Then we have to go through a long process.
I agree 100%. That bothers me as well and consumes time.
Hi Monday team,
I feel it is going back to 2000 when I need to go through the whole calendar to pick up the DOB of the customer.
It would be great if we are able to enter or copy date into date column with specific date format which will work for you either DDMMYYYY or YYYYMMDD.
I am feeling exhausted to import 50k customers history into Monday.com and losing customers’ DOB.
Thank you,
Viet
Hi, is there any update on this? It seems like this has been in discussion for about 3 years now, with a large amount of people seeing this update as essential? When will this update be implemented. Many other programs allow typing of dates so it should not be a difficult add.
This post started since Feb 2020, and nothing updated yet!
It seems like Monday team doesn’t hear us well!
Please allow typing of a date in a date column. If you are typing historical dates, it’s very tedious having to click through several times to get to a previous month or year every time you enter a date. While the current feature is useful if you’re adding a date in the current month, it’s not very practical for dates outside of that. Or, allow us to create a text column that can be formatted as a date.
Thanks!
Why is not not possible to TYPE in the date instead of having to pick from a calendar? It’s very tedious to click all the way to December when we are presently in January, especially when I have a bunch of tasks I need to set due dates on. I can’t really use formula because we are an accounting firm and there are many different types of due dates. But I would HIGHLY suggest to be able to TYPE in the date instead of picking it form a calendar, it’s going to save a lot of time!
When there is a date field you currently have to select the forward/backward arrows to change the month. Add drop down to change the Month like you do for the year for fewer clicks.
Also would be nice if you could just type in the date vs. being forced to use the pop up.
Hey, any traction on this? I’d love to be able to just type, for example, 5.3.23 in a field rather than clicking and scrolling. TBH I’m thinking of just switching to a text field and losing the date functionality because it would be less trouble.

Not being able to quickly enter a date (or paste it from another app) is needlessly time-consuming.
Really insane that have been working for 2 years on such a basic feature…
Having to do 300 manual date selections, time difference is at least 5-10 seconds…
