I would like to export data from board to excel as a simple columns table. The export to excel feature currently exports all the Monday formatting and requires you to manually reformat by adding a column and copy and pasting group titles, then deleting multiple rows in between each group.
We have multiple business processes that I can transition from other platforms into Monday, but this clunky reporting is deterring me from streamlining. We often need to pull excel or csv reports from other systems, but they do so in a “normal” format. If Monday could do the same, it would significantly enhance our usage of Monday, decrease the use of multiple applications, and reduce the need for reconciliations between Monday.com and those other systems we use.
I understand your situation with the current export process in Monday.com, which includes unnecessary formatting and extra rows. While there’s no direct way to export to a simple table format, you can use automations to populate a “Group Name” column for each item, reducing the need for manual adjustments.
Alternatively, you could integrate Monday.com with Google Sheets or use third-party tools like Zapier to streamline the export process into a cleaner format. If you have development resources, you could also use the Monday.com API to create a custom export solution. It’s also worth submitting a feature request to Monday.com for a cleaner, unformatted export option.
It is a pain indeed. I mean, I get the idea of trying to visually reflect the look of a board in an Excel spreadsheet for simple reporting cases. But it’s pretty unusable if you need to keep working further on the data.
