Guests who view shared boards cannot see mirrored entries

Hi,

The way we operate we need to have the ability to have our clients see a dashboard of progress. Previously this was all done via google sheets, but we are moving away and adapting our backend around Monday.com.

I’ve created a shared board, each client will get their own and the information displayed there will be only from their products on from the sales board. However to do this, I utilized the mirrored function to show them their section of the sales from the sales board; However when a client logs on and views the shared board the mirrored columns don’t display for them.

Is there anyway to fix this? These clients need to see their sales and keep up with progress as it is made. However for obvious reasons I cannot share the entire original shared board with them; Since they would end up seeing other clients sales as well.

This is by design, a mirrored column is reading from a board the guest does not have access to, therefore they cannot see that data.

The only way to fix this is with a third-party app that can reflect values without using mirror columns.

Hi @David_Lockwood

I’ve published an article and a video on how you can get that done for your clients. Here’s the link. Let me know how it goes

Hey David,

Following what Cody mentioned: A mirrored column is just a ‘reflection’ from another board. Basically, it’s a way to peek into information/data from another board.

There are 3 ways to fix this:

  1. You can simply invite the guests to the other board
  2. You could use a 3rd party app to automatically copy and paste the information over. For example, using make, you could basically recreate the mirroring column functionality.
  3. There’s also the famous marketapp called V-LookUp that essentially does the same thing are mirrored columns except it’s automatically copy-pasting the information between boards rather than ‘peeking’.

I’m happy to help further if needed.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Unfortunately I cannot invite all the guests to the main board the mirroring is pulling from as this will expose private data from all other companies we represent.

It looks like I will have to dive into a 3rd party app or marketapp and see what other solutions I can do to implement this.

Hi David,

since you’re okay with a third party solution, our Board to Website Widget app might be helpful to solve your problem. Beside embedding the widget into a website, you can simply share it with a link.

The following example is fueled and published from some randomly mixed up board with various column types, including mirror columns: https://widgets.getgorilla.app/6a13f012b2133423

Within the app itself, you can hide certain columns that should not be published. And you can adapt the appearance to your own branding or that of your clients, in case that’s a thing for you.

At the moment, publishing widgets is manually only. But we are planning to release custom filters and automations in the next 4-6 weeks.

Maybe give it a try and let me know what you think.

Hi @David_Lockwood I missed this message so wanted to let you know that VLOOKUP app is the most popular alternative solution for syncing data from private board to guest boards so guests can view data from internal monday boards.

Below is a demo

Hey David,

To expand on Cody’s point: a mirrored column is essentially a way to view data from another board without duplicating it. It’s like getting a “reflection” of that information.

There are three possible ways to resolve this:

  1. You can invite the guests to the other board so they can access the data directly.
  2. Use a third-party app to automate copying the information. For instance, with Make, you can recreate the functionality of a mirrored column by syncing the data.
  3. You can also explore an app called V-LookUp, which works similarly to mirrored columns but automatically copies the information between boards instead of just reflecting it.

Let me know if you need more help with this!
