Have an automation create an email with information from Updates section

I want a “notify” in an automation to generate an email to item subscribers that includes information from the update section.

I can see how to trigger the notification based on someone creating an update but there doesn’t appear to be any field I can select under the “notify” that refers to the updates section.

I want to do this because the system built-in notifications for subscribers do not include enough item detail even though they contain the actual update.

If you’re open to apps, Board Email Report can be a workaround for your case. There are 2 types of automated reports on a board and item level. On an item level, you can get the following reports:

  • Updates by a specific employee

  • Updates mentioning a specific employee

  • Updates containing attachments

  • Status updates

  • Last updates

You set up automation rules to get reports every day (week, month) with consolidated updates and detailed xls-report as an attachment to people outside monday (no guest access needed!).

Thanks I appreciate the response. Its not so much the reporting we are after but just triggering individual updates to interested parties. The notifications embedded in Monday.com just don’t contain all the information that the recipients would like to see.

What kind of item detail are you looking for? Which product (CRM/Work Management, etc) and level (Pro/Enterprise) do you have?

Hi @andreat If you’re looking to pull the update text from the Updates section, and you’re on a Pro or Enterprise plan (work management), you can use the Workflow feature. Just add the “Get the latest update” block and then include that update text in your email body using the “Send Email” action.

We are using Monday Dev enterprise. I just want the notification to include more information to describe the item that the update relates to like a title, description and status. Right now the automated mail uses the item field which in most of our boards would be a reference number.
