How can I integrate the JIRA subtasks as Monday.com Subitems?

I’ve been able to integrate JIRA tasks with Monday.com. However, the subtasks are not transferred to Monday.com. I would like to also integrate the JIRA sub tasks as Monday.com Sub tasks under the main task. Does anyone have a recipe that helps do this? I know sub tasks were not supported some years ago but maybe this has changed.

Hey, I’m not an expert but here is an idea of how this could work!JIRA subtasks weren’t supported directly in the native Monday.com-JIRA integration, but that has since changed. Now, it’s possible to sync JIRA subtasks into Monday.com, although setting them up as subitems (i.e., Monday.com sub-tasks) requires a few extra steps and sometimes a workaround.

Here’s how you can approach this:

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Native Integration (Updated Method)

As of the latest updates:

  1. Go to Monday.com > Integrations Center.
  2. Select JIRA Cloud or JIRA Server, depending on what you use.
  3. Choose the recipe:
  • "When an issue is created in JIRA, create an item in this board."
  • AND also add:
"When a subtask is created in JIRA, create a subitem in this item."
4.(Note: this depends on your plan and whether subitems are enabled.)*

:warning: If you don’t see this recipe available, you may need to:

  • Enable subitems in your board.
  • Reach out to support to enable advanced JIRA integration features.
  • Check that your JIRA issue type “sub-task” is being properly recognized (sometimes custom workflows need mapping).

:hammer_and_wrench: Workaround Using Make (Integromat) or Zapier

If the native integration doesn’t fully support what you need:

  1. Use Make (formerly Integromat) or Zapier to:
  • Watch for new JIRA subtasks.
  • Match them with the parent task in Monday.com using a shared key (like the issue key or summary).
  • Create the subtask as a subitem under the correct Monday.com item.

:white_check_mark: Pro Tip:

Use a unique identifier from JIRA (like the issue key) in a Monday column to help pair subtasks with their parent items. It helps ensure proper matching when automating.

Let me know if you with a like if this helps or feel free to ask for more support!

Hi Claire, I have been working on the subtask integration and tried several different ways to add the subtasks but maybe I am missing something.

Can you tell me where can I find the recipe you mention below? We have JIRA Cloud,.

"When a subtask is created in JIRA, create a subitem in this item."
